UNIQUE FRIENDS

Unique Friends are a not for profit organisation that provide activities, support, and information to children and young adults with Special Educationaal Needs and Disabilities aged 0-25 and their families. We are based in Goole and welcome families who are local and from the surrounding areas of Yorkshire.

All of the trustees have children additional needs and so know how isolating life can be as well as lonely and overwhelming. This is one of the main reasons Unique Friends was formed. We  are all DBS checked, all have Safeguarding and some of our trustees also have Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Disability Awareness, Equality and Diversity, Trustee Management training, Sign Language training as well as other qualifications.

Our aim is to provide inclusive activities that all the family can enjoy in an accepting and welcoming environment, as well as provide support, information and signposting to other agencies.

We hold monthly activity sessions at The Junction in Goole which include sensory play, Lego, quiet area and arts and crafts, we have also have organisations such as Artistic Spectrum who have helped our members enjoy clay work/pottery, Friends Can Dance for inclusive sensory dancing and Spectac-u-lab to do science experiments all of which have been hugely popular.

Our dance session was so popular that we now hold seperate monthly sessions as The Courtyard in Goole.

The Courtyard is also where we hold our monthly coffee mornings as well as to support parents and allow them to relax and chat to other parent/carers.

We also have the following projects that our families can access :

"Bringing Senses Together" this project involves us hiring out sensory equipment for a month to our families on loan free of charge.

"Looking After Yourself" this project is for parent/carers that focuses on their health and well being. We offer access to advice and support, workshops, training opportunities and clubs which all promote health and well being.
