Unique Friends are a not for profit organisation that provide activities, support, and information to children, young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities aged 0-99 years and their families. We are based in Brough and Goole and welcome families from the surrounding areas of Yorkshire.
All of the trustees have children with additional needs and so know how isolating life can be as well as lonely and overwhelming. This is one of the main reasons Unique Friends was formed. We are all DBS checked, all have Safeguarding and some of our trustees also have Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Disability Awareness, Equality and Diversity, Trustee Management training, Sign Supported English training as well as other qualifications.
Our aim is to provide inclusive activities that all the family can enjoy in an accepting and welcoming environment, as well as provide support, training opportunities, information and signposting to other agencies.
We hold monthly activity sessions at The Courtyard in Goole and at The Petuaria Centre in Brough which include Gardening, Cooking with Cookstars, Science Experiments with Spectac -u -Lab, Meet a Creature, Circus Skills with Circus Avago, Clay Work with Artistic Spectrum and we will soon be hosting sessions with the Scrapstore, Hull and having a Planetarium from Lab Rascals. We also access off site activities such as trampolining, bowling.laser quest, swimming and Rock Up.
The Courtyard, Goole and The Petuaria Centre, Brough are where we hold our monthly coffee mornings as well, where we offer support to parents and allow them to relax and chat to other parent/carers.
We also have the following projects that our families can access :
"Bringing Senses Together" this project involves us hiring out sensory equipment for a month to our families on loan free of charge.
"Looking After Yourself" this project is for parent/carers that focuses on their health and well being. We offer access to advice and support, workshops, training opportunities and clubs which all promote health and well being.
